The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains, and supports talented leaders from across America to transform urban public school systems. By targeting resources where they are needed most, Broad Center alumni are making public education systems more effective, more efficient, and more equitable so that every student receives a world-class education.

The Broad Center was founded in 2002 and has since helped over 450 professionals take on the challenge of transforming education through its two flagship programs, The Broad Academy and The Broad Residency in Urban Education.

Broad Center alumni consistently make headlines for their leadership in the nation’s school systems with many serving as high-level administrators and school leaders. Four Broad Academy alumni have been named Superintendent of the Year.

Our Impact

Fourteen Education Pioneers have served their Fellowships at the Broad Center since 2007. Over the years, they have:

  • Designed The Broad Residency’s formal review program by mapping the program’s mission, goals, and outcomes to evaluation measures and allowing for continuous improvement of the program.
  • Tracked the success of The Broad Residency by creating resident case studies and developing a survey to systematically capture residents’ impact as they advance in their careers.
  • Identified top priority school districts for partnership, streamlined internal research processes, and ensured the success of the Broad network members by identifying common pathways to executive leadership.
  • And more.
