AN UPDATE FROM SCOTT MORGAN, FOUNDER & CEO
Happy New Year!
This year promises to be an exciting one. It's hard to believe that 10 years ago this June I drove from San Jose to Sacramento to file the papers to form Education Pioneers. I wasn't sure if my car could make the trip, but I believed without a doubt that Education Pioneers could make an impact on the lives of millions of children. I hope you agree that we are well on our way.
In Good to Great, Jim Collins writes that, "The most important decisions that [leaders] make are not ‘what' decisions, but ‘who' decisions." I couldn't agree more, and know that the people decisions we have made at Education Pioneers over the past nine years have played a central role in our success - and have enabled us to build a strong pipeline of leadership, management, and analytic talent for the outstanding Partner organizations we work with throughout nation.
I'm thrilled to share exciting news about one of the key leaders who has fueled our growth and impact at Education Pioneers. In early 2009, we gained an incredible leader when Frances McLaughlin joined our team as our founding Chief Operating Officer. She has demonstrated effective leadership and an unwavering commitment to our mission and work ever since. As COO, she has overseen a period of high-quality growth that enabled us to quadruple our leadership network - from nearly 400 Education Pioneers when she joined us nearly four years ago to our current network of approximately 1,600 Education Pioneers. She has also helped us to cast a new bold new vision for the future: transform education into the best led and managed sector in the U.S. and recruit 10,000 top leaders, managers, and analysts by 2023 to help realize our vision.
Based on Frances' outstanding performance and partnership with me over the years, I recently decided - with the full support of our National Board of Directors - to promote Frances into the new role of President. Frances will continue to work closely with our leadership team, our board, and me to shape and advance our strategic priorities while overseeing our day-to-day operations.
Please join me in congratulating Frances and in thanking her for her many contributions to Education Pioneers! And please contact either of us if you know any strong candidates who we should consider in our important search for a Chief Administrative Officer who will report to Frances and be based in Oakland or Boston.
On behalf of Education Pioneers, thank you for your support of our mission and work, and please accept our warmest wishes for a wonderful year.
