Our Strategy & Impact
"The Education Pioneers Fellowship is not just a job and a few lines on the resume. It was a time to truly explore the field, dig into the issues, understand my specific calling, and connect with others."
—Jeff Kang, 2007 DC Metro Fellow, MBA, UC Berkeley
Education Pioneers aims to transform education into the best led and managed sector in the U.S. so that all children receive a high-quality education. To fuel this vision, Education Pioneers plans to recruit 10,000 leaders, managers, and analysts by 2023, and connect the leaders in our network with high-impact leadership roles in key organizations across the education sector.
The U.S. education system is at an exciting and critical juncture. A growing number of leaders across the country have created high-performing schools and programs that are defying the odds, delivering an exceptional education, and proving that children -- regardless of race or socio-economic background -- can achieve at high levels.
To provide a high-quality education to every U.S. child, the education sector must perform at a fundamentally higher level. In addition to the current focus on effective teaching, there is an urgent need to develop a strong pipeline of leaders and managers for key roles throughout the education system. These leaders and managers are essential to converting the current proof points of success into system-wide results where all children achieve at high levels.
At Education Pioneers, we believe that it will require sector-level transformation to equip our nation, and all children in our nation, to thrive in the 21st century. This transformation simply will not happen without exceptional leadership and management across the education sector.
Founded in 2003 in response to the acute shortage of leadership and management talent in the education sector, Education Pioneers attracts, prepares, and advances top leaders, managers, and analysts to accelerate excellence in education.
Education Pioneers has grown into a thriving national organization operating in 16 cities with a network of over 1,600 leaders and partnerships with more than 180 education organizations. Education Pioneers has significantly expanded the talent supply in education by connecting our Alumni to high-impact careers in education and supporting them to succeed. More than 70 percent of our employed Alumni work full-time in education.
