What We Do

"In a few weeks, Prilla has made a substantial contribution to the future of the charter school movement. She's brought considerable analytic skills, impressive persistence, and diplomacy to the task of figuring out where we will get the next-generation of high-quality leaders. Her work will be a major component of recommendations that will go to funders and other partners later this year - and we will miss having her around!"

Nelson Smith, President, National Alliance for Public Charter Schools

DC Metro Area

The DC Metro Area faces unique education challenges. Although DC students experienced some gains on 2009 standardized tests (District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System), only 40% of secondary students are proficient in math and only 41% of secondary students are proficient in reading. A high-quality education improves opportunities for students in the DC Metro Area. To address the DC Metro Area’s unique challenges and deliver high-quality education, we need more skilled leaders working in the field of education.

Talent for Organizations Improving Education in the DC Metro Area

Skilled Professionals Recruited to Work in Education in the DC Metro Area

We recruit and groom top graduate school students from schools like Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford, and Howard for our selective Fellowship Program. Fellows are groomed to become leaders in education in the DC Metro Area through high-level work experience, training on complex local education issues and collaboration with education experts and peers.

Alumni: Leaders in Education in the DC Metro Area

In the DC Metro Area, 70% of Education Pioneers Alumni work full-time in the field of education. Jimmy Henderson, MBA, a 2007 Education Pioneers Fellow, could have followed a career path in the private sector, but is now Director of Finance, Planning and Policy at E.L. Haynes Charter School where he is responsible for the successful opening of their second campus in a brand new building.
