German Freiwald is currently a 2012 MBA candidate at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. He became a 2011 Education Pioneer because he believes that a high quality public education system is a prerequisite for a strong democracy and a thriving populace. Prior to his graduate studies, German spent the first four years of his professional career working for City Year, an AmeriCorps program. While at City Year, he designed and managed an award-winning educational theatre program, which reached thousands of students in the bay area and hundreds of first-time offenders in San Jose. After City Year, German spent four years working on the Google Grants team, which provides free online advertising to non-profits. As a Grants Strategist, German launched Grants in Argentina and Mexico and had other fun adventures. German earned his BA in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz.
