Doreet Preiss
Cohort: 2010 New York
Fellowship Placement: New York City Department of Education
Education: Ph.D., New York University; M.A., New York University

Doreet Preiss joined Education Pioneers in New York in 2010, working at the New York City Department of Education (DOE). As part of the School Performance Team, Doreet worked to develop an informational report that will provide principals with data on students' outcomes after they matriculate to the next level of schooling. Informed by DOE's accountability systems, Doreet identified metrics for inclusion, drafted business rules for calculating these metrics and designed the report template. By providing knowledge about their students' future progress and performance, this informational report will allow principals to gauge how effectively their schools are preparing students. Additionally, this information will enable principals to adjust current practice to better serve their students. Additionally, Doreet drafted a document describing the rewards and interventions associated with DOE's accountability systems. This text updates information currently available on the public website. Before graduate school, Doreet taught high school French as a member of Teach For America's (TFA) Mississippi Delta corps. After TFA, she spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar teaching English in an under-served high school north of Paris. Doreet is currently a fellow with the Institute of Education Sciences at New York University and is working toward her doctorate in Sociology.
