What We Do

"Education Pioneers will expand the pipeline of young leaders and help education reform efforts in Houston to grow and succeed."

Education Pioneers Is Coming to Houston!

Many education reform efforts have taken root in the entrepreneurial-friendly city of Houston, home to the nation’s seventh largest school district. However, the city faces unique education challenges. A study released in 2009 found that only 58.5% of Houston freshman graduate from high school. A high-quality education improves opportunities for students in Houston. To address Houston’s unique challenges and deliver high-quality education, we need more skilled leaders working in the field of education.

Talent for Houston Education Organizations

We partner with education organizations including Houston Independent School District, YES Prep Public Schools, KIPP Houston, Teacher For America and Project GRAD Houston. We provide Partners with top talent for critical projects and full-time employment. Education Pioneers Fellows help our Partners create strategic plans, develop performance metrics, create teacher retention strategies and other critical projects to help them advance their mission and improve student outcomes. Top Graduate Students Recruited to Work in Houston Education System

We recruit and develop top graduate school students from schools such as University of Texas, Austin, Rice and Harvard for our selective Fellowship Program. We chose Fellows based on a rigorous application and selection process. In 2009, 13% of applicants became Education Pioneers Fellows. Fellows are developed to become leaders in the Houston education system through high-level work experience, training about K-12 education in Houston and collaboration with local education experts and peers.

Alumni: Leaders in Education in Houston

Nationally, 72% of Education Pioneers Alumni work full-time in the field of education. Andrew Goldin, Harvard MBA and 2008 Education Pioneers Fellow in New York, is being trained in Houston by YES Prep Public Schools to lead a new charter school.
