2008 New York City Cohort
John Troy joined Education Pioneers in New York City in 2008, out of a belief that providing every child an exceptional education is the best path towards breaking the poverty cycle and ensuring a brighter future for our children. John spent the summer at Achievement First Charter Schools preparing a new business plan to communicate the values that shape the organization, where the organization is headed, and the strategy to get there.
After beginning his career as an investment banking analyst with Citigroup, John rebuilt EPIC Adventures, a New York City nonprofit that brought students to New York from across the country to spend a week serving the community. At the same time, John served as the Community Service and Finance Director at The Journey Church in Manhattan, where he both managed the church's finances and led hundreds of volunteers in service projects, many of which involved helping New York City's children. Following his time with EPIC and Journey, John spent 8 months studying Spanish and volunteering in orphanages in Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. John is currently an MBA student at Duke University and will be spending his summer fellowship with Achievement First.
