About TEAM Charter Schools, Newark
TEAM Schools is a growing network of schools in Newark, New Jersey, proving that students of all backgrounds can succeed in school. Most of our students enter our schools below grade level in reading and math, but in a few short years, they prove that their zip codes do not determine their destinies, achieving at levels that outpace their peers in Newark and across the state. 85% of our students qualify for free/reduced meals (69% and 16% respectively) and 14% of students are with special needs. Our schools are free public schools; every student in Newark is eligible to attend. Students are admitted by lottery and there are no eligibility requirements. TEAM is part of the national network of KIPP schools.
The mission of TEAM Charter Schools is to create a network of schools in Newark, New Jersey, that instill in their students the desire and ability to succeed in college, in order to change the world.
Upon entering TEAM, the average student performs in the bottom 25% of the nation in reading, and the bottom third of the nation in math. TEAM students are making multiple years of educational progress every year, climbing from two to three years below grade level to well above grade level. By their eighth grade year, TEAM students perform in the top 10% of the nation in math and in the top 30% in reading on the SAT-10. All of our middle school alumni attend college preparatory high schools.
