About BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life)
BELL pursues its mission by providing educational summer and after school programs to the children who need them most. The BELL Summer and Bell After School programs feature small-group tutoring in literacy and math; mentoring from adult role models to foster self-respect and social skills; experiential learning through field trips, guest speakers and community service; support for parents to more deeply engage in their children's education; and rigorous evaluation to ensure continual improvement and success for children.

BELL exists to transform the academic achievements, self-confidence, and life trajectories of children in under-resourced, urban communities.
Impact
In BELL Summer, scholars typically gain 3 months or more in literacy and math skills after just six weeks. In contrast, the average student living in a low-income neighborhood loses more than 2 months' grade-equivalent reading and math skills. BELL's impact results have been validated through an independent, random assignment study conducted by the Urban Institute and Mathematica Policy Research, finding BELL Summer increases reading achievement in scholars and parental engagement in education.
