Graduate School Fellowship: Selection Criteria

Education Pioneers is building a network of leaders eager to contribute their unique skills and talents in a meaningful way to urban education.

To be eligible for the Graduate School Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Have completed at least ONE year of graduate studies and be in good academic standing, or hold a graduate degree
  • Have a minimum of TWO years of full-time professional work experience (undergraduate summer work or internships cannot be considered collectively as full-time work experience)
  • Be authorized to work in the United States (international students are eligible to apply only if they are authorized to work in the United States and do not require any visa assistance)
  • Be able to commit to a 10-week program (June - August 2012), Fellowship workshops, and other mandatory aspects of the summer program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in: finance, strategy, marketing, operations, human resources, curriculum design, professional development, policy analysis, urban education or law
  • Belief that all children, regardless of race and economic background, can and should achieve at high levels
  • Strong commitment to Education Pioneers' mission and core values of courage, optimism, collaboration and action
  • Track record of excellence and success in academic and professional settings
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • High level of self-awareness, commitment to personal growth, and keen desire to work with and learn from others with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Passion for K-12 public education
  • Energetic, self-starter who takes the initiative to drive to results even in ambiguous situations
