Across the country, hundreds of thousands of professionals in school districts, charter schools, nonprofits, and other education organizations are working hard to ensure that all students receive a world-class education.  Behind every student, teacher, principal, and school, thousands of leaders work daily to improve teaching and learning results.  Great teachers and school leaders must be surrounded by great school district leaders, nonprofit managers, and education entrepreneurs.  Education Pioneers is one of a very select few national organizations developing and infusing top leadership talent broadly into the education sector outside of the classroom.

With a mission to identify, train, connect, and inspire a new generation of leaders dedicated to transforming America's education system to ensure that all students receive a quality education, Education Pioneers has been building a nationwide network of high-potential professionals and supporting them to launch non-teaching education careers since 2003.

Education Pioneers operates four programs: the 10-week summer Graduate School Fellowship, the Yearlong Fellowship, the 10-month Analyst Fellowship program, and the on-going Alumni Program.

  • The Graduate School Fellowship prepares talented business, law, policy, and education graduate students with diverse, multi-disciplinary backgrounds to become education leaders and connects them to leading education organizations.  During the 10-week Fellowship, Fellows complete high-level consulting projects, participate in full-day professional development workshops, interact with influential industry experts, and leverage the Education Pioneers network.
  • The Yearlong Fellowship, a pilot program launching in 2012, builds upon the Graduate School Fellowship model. Fellows will participate in the same professional development and networking opportunities as the Graduate School Fellows in the summer, but their full-time work experience extends for 12 months. The Yearlong Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for those candidates who have completed their graduate programs to launch a high-impact career in education by making a significant contribution to a leading education organization over the course of a year.
  • Launched in 2010, the Analyst Fellowship pilot program provides Bay Area education organizations with the analytic talent they need to advance data-driven reforms.  Designed with early career professionals in mind, the 10-month fellowship provides outstanding college graduates who have two to three years of top-tier private sector work experience with introductory exposure and access to successful leaders, organizations, and reform initiatives in urban education.
  • Education Pioneers' Alumni Program supports Alumni to pursue high-impact careers that effect large-scale change in urban education.  With career services that include industry workshops, career consultation and coaching, and direct pathways to partner organizations, we help our Alumni launch and advance high-impact careers across the education spectrum, accelerate professional growth, and leverage the Education Pioneers network.

Through these four programs, Education Pioneers identifies and cultivates great leaders to become a part of a nationwide network to transform education.  We envision a 21st century education system that equips all Americans, especially those students in underserved communities, with the skills they need to thrive in college, career, and life. It is critical for leaders in urban education to reflect the urban communities they serve.  Education Pioneers actively recruits people of color for our Fellowship Programs.  We support equal opportunity for all people and strongly encourage people of color to apply to our Fellowship Programs.
